What is the Manitoba Child Care Subsidy?
The Child Care Subsidy Program, managed by the province's Department of Education and Early Childhood Learning, provides provincial support to eligible families to help with the cost of care by reducing child care fees for children aged 12 weeks to 12 years.
According to the official page, effective September 13, 2026, both the family contribution and non-subsidized daily fee will be eliminated for all eligible families under the program, making child care free for eligible Manitoba families.
Eligibility
Eligibility is based on the reason for care and calculations outlined in the Child Care Regulation, M.R. 62/86, which determines a family's contribution amount and includes:
- Annual household income
- Allowable family deductions based on family composition, dependent children under 18, and if the child requiring care has additional support needs
- Number and ages of children
- Cost of licensed child care
