How to Get a Family Doctor in Nova Scotia: Using the Official Registry

Nova Scotia Health runs the official Need a Family Practice Registry to help residents find a primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner). If you don't have one, or your provider is moving, retiring, or closing their practice, you can join the registry.

How to Register

There are two ways to request to join the registry:

• Online: Click the "Register/Update" button on the official website.
• By phone: Call 811, Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Important: If you are new to Nova Scotia and do not have a Nova Scotia Health Card, you must register by phone.

What You Need

Online registration requires completing a reCAPTCHA verification. The challenge is random and may take several attempts.

Voluntary and Privacy

The official page states:

• Participation is voluntary.
• Personal health information you provide is collected and used to help find you a family practice and match services. It is protected under Nova Scotia's Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).
