Renewing Your Driver's Licence in Newfoundland and Labrador

In Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), driver's licence and photo identification photos are managed by the Motor Registration division of Government Services. According to official rules, your driver's licence photo must be updated every 10 years.

When You Need a New Photo

The official page states: your driver's licence or photo identification photo is required to be updated every 10 years. You will be notified when a new photo is needed, either:

On your driver's licence renewal application, or
Through your MyGovNL account

How to Update Your Photo

If a new photo is required, you can make an appointment to visit your nearest Motor Registration location to have a new photo taken.

Renewing Online and Temporary Receipt

The official page states: if a new photo is required, you can still renew your driver's licence online and get a receipt that allows you to continue driving for up to 40 days. Your confirmation receipt and your current driver's licence will be valid for 40 days from the date of payment.

Photo Identification

If you have a photo identification card (not a driver's licence), you also need to make an appointment to visit your nearest Motor Registration location to have a new photo taken.
