What changed
Employment and Social Development Canada has updated the Old Age Security payment amounts page, replacing the maximum monthly payment amounts and income thresholds for the July to September 2026 quarter with those for the October to December 2026 quarter.
Compared with the previous quarter, the maximum monthly payment amounts and income thresholds have increased. The page states that OAS benefits increased by 1.4% based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), for an increase of 3.0% over the past year, from October 2025 to October 2026.
Specifically, the maximum monthly Old Age Security pension for ages 65 to 74 changed from $751.97 to $762.50, and for ages 75 and over from $827.17 to $838.75. The maximum monthly Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) for a single, widowed or divorced person changed from $1,123.17 to $1,138.90, with the income threshold changing from $22,800 to $23,112. The maximum monthly Allowance changed from $1,428.06 to $1,448.06, with the combined couple income threshold changing from $42,144 to $42,768. The maximum monthly Allowance for the Survivor is now $1,726.18, with an income threshold of $31,152.
The page also states that the Old Age Security pension is taxable income and is subject to a recovery tax if individual net annual income is higher than the net world income threshold set for the year ($93,454 for 2025). Payment amounts for the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance and the Allowance for the Survivor are not considered taxable income.
