What Happened
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is adjusting the opening and closing times at nine land ports of entry in British Columbia (BC) to maintain alignment with hours at the neighbouring U.S. ports of entry.
This change follows British Columbia's decision to adopt permanent year-round daylight saving time. Since the United States will continue to change its clocks seasonally, adjusting the operating hours at the BC ports of entry in the fall and spring means alignment of service hours between Canada and the U.S. will be maintained year-round at these nine sites.
The nine land ports of entry affected are: Aldergrove, Carson, Cascade, Chopaka, Fraser, Midway, Nelway, Pleasant Camp, and Waneta. The official page lists the updated traveller and commercial hours for each port, with times shown in Pacific Time.
What the Official Text Says
> The new hours will take effect at 2:00 a.m. (Pacific Time) November 1, 2026, and will remain in place until 2:00 a.m. (Pacific Time) March 14, 2027.
Who Is Affected
Travellers crossing between Canada and the U.S. through BC land ports of entry, including residents making cross-border shopping trips, visiting family, or commuting, as well as commercial vehicles using these ports.
The official page states that if a port of entry is not available at the time a traveller needs to cross, travellers can use an alternate port of entry. The CBSA also works with emergency services on both sides of the border to ensure they can cross during an emergency situation.
When It Starts
The new hours take effect at 2:00 a.m. Pacific Time on November 1, 2026, and remain in place until 2:00 a.m. Pacific Time on March 14, 2027.
