If you or someone you know is in crisis or just needs someone to talk to, there are several free resources in Canada and Alberta. This article is based on official information from the Government of Canada.

Emergency

If you are in immediate danger or need urgent medical support, call 9-1-1.

If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline). Available 24/7, offering bilingual, trauma-informed, culturally appropriate support to anyone in Canada.

Alberta Resources

  • 211 Alberta: Call 2-1-1 or text INFO to 2-1-1. Available 24/7. Crisis support and virtual services, connecting to local mental health and addiction services.
  • Counselling Alberta: Call 1-833-827-4230 (toll-free). Affordable counselling with same-day appointments, virtual and in-person options.
  • Alberta Mental Health Line: Call 1-877-303-2642 (toll-free). Available 24/7. Confidential support, information, and referrals by mental health professionals.
  • Virtual Opioid Dependency Program: Call 1-844-383-7688 (toll-free). Available 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week. Same-day treatment, province-wide.
  • Alberta Addiction Health Line: Call 1-866-332-2322 (toll-free). Available 24/7. Rapid access counselling.
  • Kickstand: For Albertans aged 12-25, short-term counselling by booking only. Text MoreGoodDays to 393939 for daily support messages.
  • Health Link: Call 8-1-1. Available 24/7. Free advice from nurses and general health information.
  • Family Violence Info Line: Call or text 310-1818 (toll-free). Available 24/7. Multilingual service.
  • Alberta's One Line for Sexual Violence: Call or text 1-866-403-8000 (toll-free). Available 9 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week.

Chinese Language Services

Among the above, Family Violence Info Line explicitly offers multilingual service (including Chinese). Other hotlines may offer translation; it's best to ask when calling.
